Foodspotting Users

Foodspotting has seen referral traffic from Facebook quadruple and monthly average users double since the upgraded for timeline this January.

Facebook’s developer blog recognized the food app for its use of action verbs spot, love, nom, try, and want.
The post went on to say of Foodspotting:

For existing users, Foodspotting shows a notification to encourage people to add the app to timeline. The call to action gets people to share, which fuels the loop that grows your app.

Foodspotting creates interesting stories by providing detailed information about each dish — such as location or the number of friends who have loved a dish — through custom properties.
With this information, Foodspotting can create more meaningful timeline aggregations, such as where I’ve eaten.
Finally, to make the stories really stand out in news feed and timeline, Foodspotting displays large user-generated photos by setting the user-generated photos property on the spot action.

Double food for Facebook.

Download Facebook Messenger for Windows as a standalone desktop app with which you can use without visiting the website facebook.com. Facebook released the new Facebook messenger as a trial app and you can download and try it right now

Download Facebook Messenger

Facebook Messenger
As you surf the web, you can use the Facebook Messenger for Facebook Chat with your Facebook friends, see the latest updates from your friends in ticker and get quick Facebook updates and notifications.
After installing Facebook Messenger, you can easily do Facebook login and logout by right-clicking the Facebook icon in Windows system tray. Once you open the app, the app is undocked by default so that you can move it around your computer screen, but you can dock the app and fix it on the screen also.
Choose the “Keep me logged in” option and Messenger will keep you logged in to Facebook even after you close your browser or navigate away from Facebook. Remember, choosing Exit will close the app but still keep you logged into Facebook; therefore choose Log out to completely logout of both the Messenger app and facebook.com, especially if your computer has multiple users or public use.
facebook logout
Facebook Window Chat
Facebook Messenger has some limitations – unlike the website login, you cannot perform Facebook Chat with multiple friends, video calling, limit chat availability and edit settings as of now. You will need to go to your browser and login for that.
Download Facebook Messenger (.exe file). This will download a small .exe file, click that and it will download and install Facebook Messenger. The app will automatically install updates in future. Since this is a trial app, be ready to expect outages and periods of instability at times. System requirement says you need  Windows 7 (but I was easily able to download on my Windows Vista). You can uninstall Facebook Messenger anytime from WindowsControl Panel.

How to Advertise on Facebook

How to Advertise on Facebook

I just attended this webinar  hosted by HubSpot , called, How to Benefit from Facebook 2011 Updates. They began by introducing the new features that were added on Facebook in 2011, then went straight into question and answer session. Advertising on Facebook has been around for sometime now but people are finally starting to figure out how it works and how to put it to good use to help benefit their businesses.
What’s New on Facebook
•             Send Button – it’s a selective Like button. It counts in the Like total on your page as well, and can be delivered as a Facebook Message or on a group wall.
•             Deals is still in test mode and is only available in 5 cities. But the point is that it will get groups of friends to discover the business by sending out deals with no upfront costs.
What benefits can I get from using iFrames on my page?
iFrames are frames that allow a visual HTML Browser window to be split into segments. Ultimately by introducing iFrames into Facebook pages, companies are now able to brand their pages.
•             Now you can use styles on Facebook as you use it on your website, this is great for branding your company.
Facebook Advertise

•             You can also track page views using Google Analytics
•             Google Website Optimizer – is now available to be used on the tab pages.
•             Links can open within the iFrame as if you are on your website. For example, you can have a whole cart process within an iFrame and NOT leave Facebook at ALL.
•             If you want to know how to set up an iFrame on your Facebook check out Hubspot’s blog post  on “How to Set up a Facebook Custom iFrame Landing Page Application .” You can also download  for FREE “The Facebook Marketing Update – Spring 2011” E-Book which includes a step by step process of setting up iFrames for your custom facebook pages.
•             Photos and videos are much more visible on the news feed because they take up space, so this would be a smart technique to attract attention from your fans.
•             Also, keep in mind that videos are much more engaging than pictures because fans will more likely click play and tune in thanLike an image.
•             Tip: Turn images into Call to Actions to see what kind of interaction you may receive.
•             And now with Google Website Optimizer, you can test videos and photos to see what interests people more.

What to do about Negative comments?
•             Don’t ignore negative comments, that will only make things worse.
•             Address the comment and take it offline.
•             Suggestion: Have a customer care person who is not the same person updating the facebook page to address negative feedback to try to assess and fix the issue.
•             It depends on your audience, no one set rule for everyone, it just depends on the kind of site you have. Keep in mind, if they are across the world, they won’t necessarily see the post because of the time difference. By the time people get to the post it may be buried, so if your target base is in another country across the world, make sure to post in their waking hours.
•             Keep involved but don’t over do it.
•             Audi  – more engaging than Justin Bieber – they have 3.5 Million fans. This is because there is a lot of interaction and discussion. By answering comments and engaging users, they have gained a heavy fan base.
•             Mail Chimp  also has a lot of interaction and comments. They have a human element by commenting, it’s not just a faceless brand.
•             Retail sites are hard to get engagements but Sephora  does it well
Fans talk to each other about products and advice on which product works best

Where Do I Go for Help?

facebook help
Facebook Tips, a new, ongoing series starting today on the blog, answers some of the most commonly asked questions about using Facebook. While we hope the tips we share on the blog will be informative, remember that we are unable to answer individual questions here. We'll always direct you to the Help Center for additional information about the topics we cover.

In the comments on this blog and on the Wall of our
Facebook Page, many of you ask us about functionality on the site or issues you may be experiencing with your account. People often ask, "How can I change my last name?" or "How can I control my email notifications?" — to name just a few. The answers to these and many other common questions can be found through our Help Center.

The Help Center breaks down commonly asked questions into specific topic areas, enabling you to find answers to almost any issue you may encounter. For example, on the right-hand side of the Help Center's main page, you'll see a list of the "Top Searches" that includes topics like "name change" or "limited profile." Clicking those links will quickly lead you to some of the most common help topics people are asking about.

Other help topics can be found in four main categories including Using Facebook, Facebook Applications and Features, Ads and Business Solutions, and Applications by External Developers. Under each topic, you'll be able to browse common areas for help, in addition to getting answers directly from other users. User responses to your questions will include a tally of how many other people found their responses helpful. If you still can't find the topic for which you're looking, just enter it in the search field at the top of the Help Center.

By visiting the Help Center, you also will be taken to the appropriate ways to contact us if your issue requires more help from our user operations team. For example, we want to know if your account has been compromised or affected by security issues. By visiting a
security topic in the Help Center, you'll be taken to online forms to report security issues.

You can access the Help Center by clicking the "Help Center" link at the bottom of any Facebook page. The Help Center is currently available in English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese, and we're working to expand the number of languages that are offered.

Your Story with Timeline

Labels: , ,

UPDATE on Tuesday, December 6, 2011: Beginning Timeline Rollout in New Zealand
We announced Timeline in September and made it available to developers building apps on our platform. Since then, over a million people have signed up for the developer beta to access Timeline. The feedback we've received so far has been invaluable. Starting today, we are making Timeline more widely available as we measure speed and other types of performance. We'll begin by making it available to people in New Zealand and then roll it out more broadly in the near future.

Originally Published on Thursday, September 22, 2011:
Since the beginning of Facebook, your profile has been the place where you tell your story. People use it to share everything from the small stuff, like their thoughts on an article, to the most important events of their lives, like the photos of their wedding or the birth of their child.

The evolution of your profile

Back in the early days of Facebook, your profile was pretty basic – just your name, a photo, where you went to school…stuff you'd cover in the first five minutes you met someone.

Facebook time line facts

Over time, your profile evolved to better reflect how you actually communicate with your friends. Now you can can share photos of what you did last weekend, and updates about how you feel today.

But since the focus is on the most recent things you posted, more important stuff slips off the page. The photos of your graduation get replaced by updates about what you had for breakfast.

Say you're catching up with an old friend – would you rather find out that they had eggs this morning, or hear about their new dream job?

The way your profile works today, 99% of the stories you share vanish. The only way to find the posts that matter is to click "Older Posts" at the bottom of the page. Again. And again.

Tips To Identify Fake Profiles On Facebook

Previously, I shared an article about the possibility report fake profiles on Facebook. Now I prepared a few tips to determine fakeprofiles. Like many other social networks, Facebook also has a lot of fake profiles unfortunately. These fake profiles holders usingsocial engineering tactics to attack innocent people. Facebook hasnearly 500 million users (Check Infographic) and, not surprisingly, have thousands of fake profiles. Below I have mentioned, somefunny, but true tips to find the profile is fake or not.
1st
Image profile. It is always suspicious of profiles featuring photos of professional models. Most of the fake profiles, especially women, has only one profile picture, and that too pretty and sexy(ahem) photos!
2nd
Many of the men. Their friends list will contain mostly men(well, it's not their fault, the question of gender equality). It could bearound the 1000s or even more than that.
3rd

When Dali? Check to see if she / he joined. If you have a lot of friends on Facebook were only a short time, it is likely false.
4th

Mark me! He / she would be identified in tons of cartoonimages, than his own image.
5th
The application requests. If he / she is in your list of friends, then you will get Lotta application or as an application of them. I have received many requests like that, some are "Can you send me achicken?", "You can send a buffalo?" .. LOL.
6th
Facebook album. Most of the photos are fake profiles open toeveryone. Well, not a promising tip, but worth it. It can contain manyfiles, but will not have signs indicating the different profiles. Theyalso contain very small photos.
7th

Full profile. If the profile is long and detailed, then you can besure that it is a real person. Fake profile makers will not have time to create a long and interesting profiles.
8th

Favorites page. Most of the fake profiles are less than 20 pages, well almost.
9th
Description. Most of the fake profiles are marked as "Accept MyRequest Farmville", "Add Me In Mafia Wars," and many others.
10th
For boys: Girls, do not send friendship with strangers, I mean the good guys! So if you happen to get a friend request from girlswithout verification confirm details. If you are looking for a nice guyand you have a friend request from a hot babe. Then you really need to triple check!
