How a Facebook Page can Destroy your Google SEO (search engine optimization)
Today almost every organization, website and blog has a Facebook page of its own. People spend thousands of dollars for their social media marketing strategies and just to get liked on Facebook. But have you ever imagined that how a Facebook page can destroy the SEO of your website and more particularly of your blog.
In this post I will focus more on Blogs rather than on websites, because the methodology that I will be discussing in this post is mostly followed by bloggers and not by organizations. Basically the way we bloggers use facebook page is very much responsible for the degradation of our SEO. Lets discuss how?
There is a cool app on facebook called Notes. The Notes app is available to all the facebook users free of cost and can also be integrated into Facebook Pages also. In the Notes app there is another cool feature that allows you to Integrate RSS feeds into your FB page. By using this feature all your blog posts are posted automatically on your facebook page’s wall and The problem arises here.
Because facebook page’s wall and the notes section is publicly viewable, Google and other Search Engine spiders – crawl and index these pages. In the index both the facebook post and your blog post, contain the same title and description. Thus affecting your SEO negatively because of duplicate content.
Although with Panda and Farmer Update you can also satisfy yourself that Google might think that the posts at Facebook Page are the duplicates of your original content. But what if it goes otherwise. I have an example. Suppose your blog focuses on Facebook related post. You also have a Facebook page with the above scenario already in place ie. all your posts are also available and indexable from facebook page. Now whenever anyone will search with Facebook keyword and content related to your post, what do you think, which link among your blog and facebook page will appear on the top of search result.
