Facebook To Do Away With Spam Photo Tags; Adds Un-tagging Tools Facebook Nice

Labels: ,

Spammy photo tags have been a major irritant for some months now, with people mass tagging their list in everything from cat pictures to animated cartoons. In an attempt to keep this in control and curbing unwanted photos, this new feature has been introduced.
Earlier, anyone was free to tag a user in any photo and they had to manually go to the picture and untag themselves so that it wouldn’t appear on their profile. Now with the new untagging tool, users have additional options. Namely, they can block users, report abuse and also untag themselves, directly from the untag option. This applies not only to photos, but also to posts, notes and videos.
A Facebook spokesperson in a statement to the Daily Mail, said,“One of the top requests we’ve heard is for the ability to approve these tags before they show up on your profile, This new way of protecting your privacy is balanced against the more liberal features, which allow users to tag anyone in their posts, whether they are friends with that person or not”
While we welcome the move, we feel Facebook needs to improve it further. Earlier, one could untag one’s self from a photo in one simple click. With the extended options, it now takes three clicks just to untag a picture. This can be a cause of inconvenience for people mass untagging. However, it accomplishes its aim as now it is a lot easier to block and report spam taggers.
